In late 2011, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts was eager to celebrate its recent expansion. They chose to do so with an end-of-year exhibition called Big Bang! that ran from 6 November, 2011, to 22 January, 2012.
A long list of luminaries were assigned rooms to create installations inspired by one or more works from the Museum's collection. We chose Morning, Lake Superior by Lawren Stewart Harris (1885-1970), best known as a member of the Group of Seven, who pioneered a distinctly Canadian painting style in the early twentieth century.
Our piece is a tribute to the way Harris painted landscapes so the clouds, water and earth were to merge into unidentifiable matters.
